Armstead Estate Vineyard is centrally located within the Heathcote Wine Region on the banks of Lake Eppalock.
Peter Armstead, owner & winemaker, planted the first Shiraz vines in 2003 by hand in just one weekend with the help of good friends.
The vineyard is on an Easterly facing slope over a shallow strip of Cambrian soil just metres from the Lake and it now looks a picture as the Lake is almost full.
While waiting for our vines to produce, we sourced great fruit from premium growers in the Heathcote region and got started straight away, working with experienced, award winning winemakers from the area to make our Roxy’s Paddock Shiraz and our Lakeside Marsanne. Peter now makes all of the wine with the principles of minimal intervention, and dedication to producing the varietal’s unique regional flavour.
Our Cellar Door is situated on the historic 1860’s property of Wild Duck Farm, and it is in the old Foreman’s cottage, which still retains its rustic charm. We showcase all of our wines as well as local produce and preserves. A wine tasting can be enjoyed on the verandah of the Cellar Door while enjoying the delightful view of the Lake and the grounds or in front of the blazing log fire on a cold winters day. Bring your own picnic lunch and buy a glass or a bottle of wine to have with it on the grounds overlooking the Lake. We also welcome bus tours and social groups. Give us a call or an email first so that we can properly arrange a great visit for you.
